The Edgemont Junior Class recently hosted the High School Prom, “Neon Nights,” on April 14. Keeping in theme, the EHS Junior Class spent the Thursday before Prom electrifying the stage with pink neon lights backed by a reflective silver background. Led by Junior Class Sponsors Sam Miller and Garland Wright, EHS juniors, parent volunteers Shane Miller and Miranda Nelson, and custodians Brian Peters and Alex Warembourg spent the day hanging lights and setting up tables for the next night’s Prom event. On April 14, the community arrived at 6 pm to attend Grand March. In typical Grand March fashion, the Junior Class President, JJ Ostenson, announced Prom couples to the community as they posed on stage for photos. The Grand March culminated with Senior Anna Hansen winning Prom Queen. Xander Lackey and Macy Andersen served as this year’s Prom Crown Bearers. Shortly after Grand March, the community members left, and Prom attendees began dinner. Continuing in the Neon Nights Prom theme, students ate off UV reflective place settings. The EHS Junior Class selected a menu of Caesar Salad, Shrimp Cocktail, Steak Tips, and a Dinner and Dessert Charcuterie Board. Highlights included Kerry Barker’s steak tips and the Charcuterie Board, including a glow-in-the-dark hot pink chocolate fountain. A team of volunteers prepared various dishes to serve to the attendees. This year’s food prep team of volunteers included Garland Wright, Kerry Barker, Rachel Woodhead, Patty Shore, Leanne DeRouchey, Amy Ferley, Sandy and Lenny Heerdt, Molly Andersen, April Rhodes, Cayln Degnan, Brady Joseph, and the Edgemont Food Science class. This year’s Prom servers were comprised of seventh and eighth-grade students. The Prom Server’s included Ethan Lawrence, Erik Medina, Levi Sheets, Cohin Klein, Kaylee Mergen, Burke Rhodes, and Treyan Urban. After dinner, Prom attendees selected light-up glasses, headbands, necklaces, and bracelets. They then headed to the dance floor to dance the night away under the Neon Night lights. “This year’s Prom was unlike any other one I’ve been to; I loved that the junior class got glow-in-the-dark things for all the students. It was super fun, and the pictures I took on my phone almost made it look like we were in a club instead of a high school gym,” states EHS senior Antje Rendon when explaining what she liked best about the EHS Prom. Once the dance ended at 11:30 After Prom began. Organized by volunteers Christina Heisler and Kim Darrow, After Prom featured many activities and food for the attendees. Activities included a mechanical bull, glow-in-the-dark laser tag, cornhole, spike ball, glow-in-the-dark archery, and sumo wrestling in padded suits. The South Dakota Army National Guard sponsored some activities for the After Prom. Also, the After Prom organizers fundraise throughout the year to provide activities and prizes for students at After Prom. At the end of After Prom, students won prizes ranging from mini-fridges, microwaves, televisions, dorm room furniture, games, and more. The Edgemont Junior class is so appreciative to all those who helped to make the Neon Nights prom a reality. Thank you again! Check out the video below to see more!! https://youtu.be/FpSou3JwdLE
