At last we made it to our tenth announcement in honor of our ten graduating seniors.
In our last and final post we would like to say congrats to our seniors and their families! Enjoy tomorrow and celebrate your accomplishments.
Please come see guest speaker Randy Stevens speak at graduation. It starts at 3 PM in the gym.
We are so PROUD of YOU! Great work!

The woodworking projects are finished for the year!
High school students have had the opportunity to take Finish Carpentry, where they made woodworking projects. Throughout the course, they had a set of projects where they had to carefully plan and learn how to use a multitude of tools including a drill press, miter saw, belt sander, band saw, and table saw. We are very proud of how their projects turned out and we are looking forward to what they will be able to build in the future!

Please join us for Awards Night tonight at 7 pm in the auditorium. We will be honoring high school students of all grades and awarding senior scholarships. Join us in celebrating our High School STUDCO, HS Quiz Bowl Team, HS Drama, and HS Math Contest Competition participants.
The ceremony will begin promptly at 7 pm and last no longer than an hour. Nonetheless, we will find plenty of time to celebrate our honorees, and we hope to see you there!

Edgemont School District wishes mothers everywhere Happy Mother’s Day! Mothers are our first teachers. They introduce us to everything and everyone in our world, and it is only through their love that we can trust the world might be alright after all. To all the awesome mom's out there holding down the family fort, we salute you today.

The SDPB radio station featured our primary class publishing project on the radio this week. You can listen to the interview with Ms. Pam Koller here:

It was a team effort and supported by donations from our great community. Thank you to all who helped make it possible!

We have to cancel our track meet today, unfortunately. Everything is too wet and soggy. We were looking forward to watching everyone compete today, but bring on the rain and the green grass!

We are still planning on a track meet tomorrow! We are confident this rain is going to settle in as soon as we are finished using our beautiful track. We hope to see you there.

There was lots of excitement in the air, as well as the smell of formaldehyde, as the 6th-8th grade Life Science class selected their specimens and began dissecting; frogs, stingrays, fetal pigs, crayfish, grasshoppers, perch, clams, and starfish this week in Mrs. Rhodes' class. This is such a great hands-on learning opportunity for our students and I love their level of engagement, their thought-provoking questions, and hearing students say, "Mrs. Rhodes you've got to come see this"!

Congratulations to Olivia on placing third in the West River Math Contest in advanced math!

Good luck to our high school students competing in the West River Math Contest today!

Our regular school board meeting will be pushed back until 8:00 pm tomorrow (May 8) instead of the regularly scheduled 7:00 pm, so we can all attend and enjoy the ag banquet. Thanks!

The 2nd annual FFA banquet is tomorrow evening and there are still tickets available! There will be smoked brisket for dinner, keynote speaker Dustin Luper, chapter awards, and a silent auction. Be sure to bring your branding iron to get your brand on the board! Send advisor Brady Joseph a text at (970) 290-7580 to reserve your tickets.

The Edgemont Junior Class recently hosted the High School Prom, “Neon Nights,” on April 14. Keeping in theme, the EHS Junior Class spent the Thursday before Prom electrifying the stage with pink neon lights backed by a reflective silver background.
Led by Junior Class Sponsors Sam Miller and Garland Wright, EHS juniors, parent volunteers Shane Miller and Miranda Nelson, and custodians Brian Peters and Alex Warembourg spent the day hanging lights and setting up tables for the next night’s Prom event.
On April 14, the community arrived at 6 pm to attend Grand March. In typical Grand March fashion, the Junior Class President, JJ Ostenson, announced Prom couples to the community as they posed on stage for photos. The Grand March culminated with Senior Anna Hansen winning Prom Queen. Xander Lackey and Macy Andersen served as this year’s Prom Crown Bearers.
Shortly after Grand March, the community members left, and Prom attendees began dinner. Continuing in the Neon Nights Prom theme, students ate off UV reflective place settings.
The EHS Junior Class selected a menu of Caesar Salad, Shrimp Cocktail, Steak Tips, and a Dinner and Dessert Charcuterie Board. Highlights included Kerry Barker’s steak tips and the Charcuterie Board, including a glow-in-the-dark hot pink chocolate fountain.
A team of volunteers prepared various dishes to serve to the attendees. This year’s food prep team of volunteers included Garland Wright, Kerry Barker, Rachel Woodhead, Patty Shore, Leanne DeRouchey, Amy Ferley, Sandy and Lenny Heerdt, Molly Andersen, April Rhodes, Cayln Degnan, Brady Joseph, and the Edgemont Food Science class.
This year’s Prom servers were comprised of seventh and eighth-grade students. The Prom Server’s included Ethan Lawrence, Erik Medina, Levi Sheets, Cohin Klein, Kaylee Mergen, Burke Rhodes, and Treyan Urban.
After dinner, Prom attendees selected light-up glasses, headbands, necklaces, and bracelets. They then headed to the dance floor to dance the night away under the Neon Night lights.
“This year’s Prom was unlike any other one I’ve been to; I loved that the junior class got glow-in-the-dark things for all the students. It was super fun, and the pictures I took on my phone almost made it look like we were in a club instead of a high school gym,” states EHS senior Antje Rendon when explaining what she liked best about the EHS Prom.
Once the dance ended at 11:30 After Prom began. Organized by volunteers Christina Heisler and Kim Darrow, After Prom featured many activities and food for the attendees. Activities included a mechanical bull, glow-in-the-dark laser tag, cornhole, spike ball, glow-in-the-dark archery, and sumo wrestling in padded suits.
The South Dakota Army National Guard sponsored some activities for the After Prom. Also, the After Prom organizers fundraise throughout the year to provide activities and prizes for students at After Prom. At the end of After Prom, students won prizes ranging from mini-fridges, microwaves, televisions, dorm room furniture, games, and more.
The Edgemont Junior class is so appreciative to all those who helped to make the Neon Nights prom a reality. Thank you again!
