Decorative brown "Never Stop Learning" announcement

Greetings Mighty Moguls!

It has been a whirlwind of a week, as is to be expected for the beginning of school. New routines, new (and old) friends, new teachers, new material, it’s all exhausting. Through the chaos of this first week of school I’ve been trying to narrow down what I want to write about in this note, and I believe I have it narrowed down to grace.

First of all, thanks so much for the grace you have extended to us here at school. I know there are a LOT of papers that go home this first week that need filled out, signed, and returned to the school building. Thanks for taking the time to get them filled out and back in a timely fashion. I appreciate everyone who has sent their kids for breakfast. That has been a switch from past practice, and I have seen some confused faces when kids have asked for a Hot Pocket and been given a full meal instead. I’m sure there are other areas that have created kinks in plans, and thanks for letting us know and being patient as we try to fix problems and inconveniences.

Thanks for the grace you have given your kids this week. Coming back to school really is exhausting. It is hard physical, mental, and emotional work to come back to the classroom, establish new routines, and play, whether on the playground or the athletic field. I am sure that most of our kids are starving and on the verge of a meltdown when they are home at night. Thanks for understanding and loving them anyway. I read a blog post recently advising no one make any plans for the weekend following the beginning of school beyond movies on the couch. Though it is probably not realistic to stay on the couch all weekend, trying to relax and prepare for next week is good advice.

Finally, please make sure to extend grace to yourself. I always have big plans of having my kids on a regular bedtime schedule by the time school starts, having breakfast ready to serve when they wake up, and having a regular homework station for them when they get home. Let’s just say that has not happened, especially not this first week. Working with overly excited, overly tired children does not make that any easier. Give your family some time to settle into the school routine. We’ll all get there.

Thanks so much for sharing your kids with us. Though it has been a crazy week, it has been a great week. I can’t wait to see all that these learners accomplish this year!

Have a great weekend (whether it is on the couch or filled with obligations)!
